I was invited to participate in the exhibition Danger Will Robinson which was curated around fantastical ideas found in science fiction. Reflective foil has been a recurring material in my art work because it always strikes me as something that is out of this world. It is shiny and elusive.
In undertaking this performance i wanted to present myself as a fantastical being: part alien and part space man. The piece was promoted as live performance yet it was undertaken in the hours prior to the opening of the exhibition without an audience. What the audience did experience was a large foil ball left in the gallery with a wire antenna coming out of it and a polaroid image pined to it, indicating the live work that was created in hours just prior to the evening viewing. It is a challenging work questioning liveness and audience expectations of what performance art can be.
