It all began with very simple parameters: a pair of vintage crutches as sole walking support for an entire year. The project ‘Invalid Format’ was an investigation into everyday objects that carry a specific meaning: crutches are connected to injury, incapacity and disability.
Works in paper, string and video performance were shown in an exhibition of art works at Gitte Weise Gallery (Room 35), Sydney. Some 500 images document a year in my life. They showcase some of the most personal key themes in my work: gender, sexuality, ethnicity, metamorphosis and endurance.
It was my first major body of work and my first solo exhibition after finishing art school. The process saw my transformation from novice to professional artist.
